Seminar Outline Review of Final Project Discussion Questions

Tuesday Night - Day 7 of Unit 9 Project Due Date Head’s Up! Tuesday Night - Day 7 of Unit 9 Plan Your Time Now!

Final Project Please select one topic from any of the nine course units and readings. Culture Deviant behavior Gender Social class Race/ethnicity Discrimination Etc… THEN…Describe how this topic is treated in media.

Final Project You may choose any aspect of mass media: TV the Internet Movies Magazines Music, etc

Final Project Yes, you may combine different forms of media to examine your issue. TV and the Internet Movies and Magazines Music and the nightly news For example, you may choose the topic of race and racism in society to show how this issue is expressed on TV shows and the nightly news.

Final Project Write-Up Part 1: Clarify the social issue you are choosing, and explain why you have chosen this topic from the course.

Final Project Write-Up Part 1: Clarify the social issue you are choosing, and explain why you have chosen this topic from the course. Part 2: Describe the type of mass media you are using to analyze the social issue. Television program? A movie? A particular musician? A combination of them? Why did you choose this?

Final Project Write-Up Part 3: Using at least one key concept we have covered throughout the entire course, explain how social science helps us understand this issue. (As opposed to just thinking with emotion or opinion?)

Final Project !!Beware!! Your paper will be check for originality with state-of-the-art plagiarism checking software – use your own words and ideas! Support your thoughts with citations and references to course materials and external sources. Quote sparingly… and always use “quotation marks” for word-for-word passages! Guideline: 2-4 quotations in a brief paper – 1-2 sentences each quote.

Researching 2nd Shift? If you were going to research the problem of the "second shift", what research methodology might you use? Why? What problems might you encounter in studying this issue?
