-KRMH operates a 6 bed ICU. Most of the patients cared for in the ICU are trauma victims. The majority of these victims come to KRMH directly from the point of injury. --This course was developed based on the needs found at KRMH. The curriculum is the basics of nursing care in the critical care environment. The objective: Improve upon knowledge and abilities that exists in each nurse. - Invitations and schedules in Dari are being prepared. Afghan Chief Nurses will be involved in the nomination and preparation process. -This course is open to nurses only. -Class size will not exceed 6 students. There will be 3 Coalition RN mentors, and 2 interpreters per class. KRMH nurses will also be involved in student learning activities. The Afghan nurse mentor role will increase over time. The ultimate goal is Afghans teaching Afghans. KRMH will provide all staff required for the program. -The course will run 13 days plus one day for travel to KRMH, and one day for graduation and travel home. Mid-week start date chosen to allow for more travel day options (following Juma). Each location will be responsible for coordinating travel to Kandahar via Afghan military air travel. We will assist with travel back to home station.
