 St. Patrick Christian and is the patron saint of Ireland Patrick was born in Roman Britain. Sixteen he was captured by Irish raiders and taken as a slave to Ireland, where he lived for six years. Patrick worked as a herdsman, remaining a captive for six years. He writes that his faith grew in captivity, and that he prayed daily

On March 17 in 1762, Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New Your City. Along with their music, the parade helped the soldiers reconnect with their Irish roots, as well as with fellow Irishmen serving in the English army.  The floodlights on the Empire State Building shine green for St. Patrick’s Day.
