URINARY TRACT INFECTION By: Jacob, Autumn, and Dolly

GENERAL INFO  Infection in any part of your urinary system  Kidneys  Ureters  Bladder  Uretha  Women have greater risk of getting an UTI  Antibiotics are typical treatment-John Coffey  Serious consequences occur if spread to kidneys

URINARY SYSTEM  Waiting too long to use the restroom can cause a urinary tract infection (Womenshealth.gov).  People who use catheters also have an increased risk of getting UTIs.  UTIs can cause infection in the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.  Making it painful to pass urine  Having to use the restroom frequently, but not urinating a lot  Bloody urine or strange coloring  Pressure in lower belly  It is important to treat UTIs so the infection does not spread to the kidneys.

CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM  The bacteria can eventually enter your bloodstream if it is not stopped with antibiotics.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM  In extreme cases, UTI gets into bloodstream  Makes you septic  Causes labored breathing

NERVOUS SYSTEM  A Urinary Tract Infection can cause extreme pain when urinating.  Spinal taps can also lead to UTIs.

IMMUNE SYSTEM  Immune system overreaction can leave the lining of the bladder pocked with clumps of inflammatory immune cells  Shift balance from a protective immune response to a damaging immune response that can make your body more vulnerable to recurrent infections

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM  If the UTI becomes serious waste product will start to build up in the large intestine and cause nausea and vomiting  If left untreated for too long, it can cause acid build up in the stomach.
