LNGS Scanning Station Nicola D’Ambrosio (LNGS group) Maiori, 4-6 June 2007

CS Scanning Station: presently activities CSd measurement and analysis On-Line and off-line ESS improvements (New Filters, brick X-ray measurement, …) CS Scanning improvements (soft../Hard…) CS X-Ray system development and management Automatic emulsion changer (oil option) development Bricks / CS handling and shipment organization … General maintenance ( lab environment, network, processing PCs) PENAUT analysis

Scanning station: April 2007 run 2 shifts/day - 1 Physicist /shift (LNGS people available and on-call) 4 microscopes dedicated : used only 3 (1 microscope had a camera problem, now solved) - 1 microscope used for PENAUT analysis microscope at TecnoCut for automatic changer tuning -

Week May Week May Week May-June MarilisaAlessandraFrancesco LucaAndrea Scanning station shifts List (April 2007 Run) A new call is under way for 1÷2 weeks in June CSd measurement started on 17/5

Scanning station CSd analysis (April 2007 Run) 18 CSd measured from first extraction 19 CSd measured from second extraction 37 CSd in 11 Days (36÷15 cm 2 around prediction) Detailed results of this analysis will be presented by Luillo

On-Line scanning parameters tuning needed on “real” CSd emulsion No information on efficiencies for “large angle” ( > 400 mrad) We need a new set of emulsion for efficiencies check using “presently” CSd-like emulsion + large angle set New test beam ? Comments

Scanning station : 2007 September Run 24 hours/day 6 microscopes operative 3 shifts/day ( 8 hours ) - 2 person/shift (1 Physicist from the collaboration, 1 ext. man power ) ~ 1 CSd / system / day ( considering also NC ) In total 6÷8 CSd/day can be analyzed at LNGS

Scanning station : near future plan Setting Up of the CS Analysis parameters (On-Line and Off-Line) Re-Measurement of the CSd (April 2007 run) A soon as they are available -> tuning of the other 3 microscopes Tuning of the data flow into the computer infrastructure (Data access via Central DB !!!)

Emulsion Scotch Tape Vacuum channel CSD full surface analysis: Emulsion on scotch tape

CSD full surface analysis Preliminary quality test DONE : CSD prediction from August Run measured and confirmed Event found 98 times on 100 measurements Future tests: new scotch, un-gluing emulsion effects, precise measurement near the border. Presently we manually glue the emulsion on scotch with a “simple tool”: not so easy to get good result Professional gluing machine will be soon available (Bologna) New prototype of glass with large perimeter channel is under construction (Bologna)
