Starting points … Dispersion of digital objects on the Web. Repeated development of applications with identical functional uses (user’s interfaces, search tools, etc.). Digitisation based on capacities of users or providers, not in line with standards. Widespread use of web search services (Google etc.) for sources discovery instead of library catalogues. Unsolved issues of permanent preservation of digital objects. Knowledge acquired in co-operation with projects under the auspices of the European Union and in the common service of European national libraries.

What is A web portal providing access to digitised knowledge and cultural treasures. Provides much easier access to the knowledge kept in libraries. A tool for free searching of resources and ready access to the digital items. Intended for all web users, particularly useful for research work. Offers a virtual collection from a wide range of disciplines. It combines different collections and provides uniform access to them. Integrated search results, presented in digital form. Contributes to Slovenia’s recognition and competitiveness in the European Union.

Developement strategy (November 2006) Vision The Digital Library of Slovenia will play an active role in building the national information society, library network and research community of the future through its collections, services and expertise.
