Introduction I chose the Hairy-Nosed Wombat because I was at the zoo in Sydney, Australia and it caught my eye. I thought it looked very interesting. I also chose the Hairy-Nosed Wombat because I saw a man with one and it looked harmless. I wanted to see how it reacted in the wild. I also chose the Hairy-Nosed Wombat because it has an interesting shape and I wanted to learn more about its body and how it lives. I am looking forward to learning more about the Hairy-Nosed Wombat with you!

Body Characteristics If you are wondering what the Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat looks like, then you’re in the right place. The Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat weighs 48 to 90 pounds The width of the Hairy-Nosed Wombat is 36 to 45 inches. The Hairy –Nosed Wombats strong claws are for digging burrows and pulling out grass and roots. The Hairy- Nosed Wombat has short powerful legs and strong front paws. The newborns measure up to 4/5 of an inch that’s all the way up to your knuckle! The fur of the Hairy-Nosed Wombat is really thick so it can stay warm in really cold weather. The diet of the Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat is herbs, shrubs, bark, mosses, roots and various grasses, which makes it an omnivore. An omnivore is an animal that only eats plants. The Hairy-Nosed Wombat is located in South Australia, and the South Eastern corner of Western Australia. Savannahs and woodlands are were they are found. A savannah is sort of like a grassland. One single wombat can live in up to 10 burrows. Burrows are like holes in the ground that they live in. Trees are scattered all over the grassy plains. Temperatures are usually 25° to 30° Celsius. It comes out of its mothers pouch in late August or early September. The Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat stays in its mothers womb for 9 months until it is born. At night its sleeps on its mothers head. The Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat stays almost all of its time with its mother. The Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat lives up to 10 to 12 years old, but it is capable of living up to 20 years old. Enemies and Survival Functions Here are some of the Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombats enemies and survival functions. When the Wombat is trying to find food on the side of the road cars run them over. Cattle, sheep, and horses flatten their burrows and eat their food. Dingoes kill the wombat. People cut down trees and wreak the wombats habitat. Ticks get into their skin and suck their blood. The Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat gets some kind of poisoning which is cutting down population. Only one more paragraph until the end!

Interesting facts Do you think the wombat is boring, well it’s not here are some interesting facts! The Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat’s nickname is The Bulldozer of the Bush. The wombat is extremely rare and very endangered. There is only one colony left with 110 wombats in it. Lasiorhinus Krefftu is the scientific name. The longest living wombat lived up to 30 years old That’s 10 more years than it normally lives up to. I cant wait to tell you an over view of my animal report in the closing paragraph!

Closing Paragraph I really enjoyed doing my animal report on the Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat. I learned a lot like, the newborns measure up to 4/5 of an inch. I also learned that the wombat only grazes when temperatures are cold. A really cool fact about the habitat is that they can live in up to 10 burrows. I also learned a funny fact about the life cycle it is that, it sleeps on its mothers head! Something sad is that cars run them over. I also learned an interesting fact, and that is it’s nickname is The Bulldozer of the Bush! I hope you learned as much as I did about the Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat!
