HIGHER EDUCATION READING Vocabulary Institution (n) :a large important organization Ex :an educational institution Submit (v) : to hand in a document, proposal, etc. Ex : to submit an application Deadline (n) : a point in time by which something must be done Diploma (n) : a document showing that you have completed a course of study or part of your education. Ex : The deadline for applications is 30 April

HIGHER EDUCATION READING Vocabulary Freshman (n) :first-year student Sophomore (n) :second-year student Junior (n) : third-year student Senior (n) : fourth-year student Deposit (n) :a sum of money that is given as the first part of a large payment. Affidavit (n) : a written statement that you swear is true and that can be used as evidence in a court of law. Ex : They normally ask you to pay $100 (as a ) deposit

Passage 1: Application procedure (s) in Viet Nam 1.Applicants are required to take the National Entrance Examinations before being admitted to higher education institutions. Application forms for these examinations must be submitted before the deadline, often in April. An application fee must be included. 2.Application for admission can not be processed without a high school diplomat; so high school students have to pass the national school-leaving exam in early June. Point will be added to the Entrance examination scores for those who hold an excellent high school diplomat. 3.The National Entrance Examinations are held in early July. And results will be notified in late August. 4.The acceptance notice will be sent to you if your scores meet the requirements of admission. Copies of your academic records should be submitted in time before the new school new year. READING HIGHER EDUCATION Admission to Higher Education Institutions

Passage 2 :Freshman application Procedures in the U.S.A 1.Students are required to complete the following steps when applying for admission as a first-time freshman student: 2.An application for admission must be completed. Admissions can be obtained from the institutions admissions office. An application fee must be included. Official high school transcripts must be sent to the institution’s admissions office before the deadline. An official GED certificate may be used in the absence of a high school diplomat. 3.The scores on either the SAT or the ACT must be submitted. Colleges and universities use these scores to help predict a student’s future success in higher education. Passage 3: International application procedures in the U.S.A In addition to the freshman application procedure above, international students must complete the following: 1.All high school transcripts must be translated into English and certified by appropriate authorities. 2.Applicants whose native language is not English must be submit results of the TOEFL test with required scores. 3.Applicants must be able to support themselves and/or able to prove financial support from a sponsor. Submit the affidavit of support and financial documents. 4.If you are admitted, you will receive an acceptance letter. You will receive Form I-20 or the certificate of Eligibility signed by a school official after you have made a deposit on your first semester student bill.
