The Use of Computers for Communication October 12, 2012

What is communication? Definition is:  Is the activity of conveying meaningful information.  Communication requires a sender, a message, and an intended recipient.  Although the receiver need not be present or aware of the sender’s intent to communicate at the time of communication.  Communication can occur across vast distances in time and space.  The communication process is complete once the receiver has understood the message of the sender.

What is a computer? Do you remember the definition?  A device that computes, especially a programmable electronic machine that performs high-speed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles, stores, correlates, or otherwise processes information.  This means it can execute a programmed list of instructions and respond to new instructions that it is given.  Today, however, the term is most often used to refer to the desktop and laptop computers that most people use.

Use Computers for Communications means?  Can we say: Using our laptop or desktop computer to communicate with others.  What do you think????  Can we take it one step further! Using computers or technology to communicate with others.  What do you think????

So, How are computers used for communications?  Can you name some ways?  Think about the following: How about the Internet based communication? How about the Telephone based communication? How about the News and information?  How do we communicate using the above methods? Oh…I know you can come up with a number of different ways….think! Hint: s, cell phones, and ???  On a sheet of paper list as many computer- based communication mechanisms as you can.  Turn in your sheet to sub when finished.
