How was I hoping to be enriched? How did I do? Improving further my FrenchImproving further my French –Discovered that my French is more than good enough for KS3 teaching but I need to expand my vocabulary or I will go mad! –I can say the same for KS4 but I also need to relearn some of the more complex grammatical constructions! (conditional, subjunctive, prepositions etc)

How did I do? Meeting classes I will be teachingMeeting classes I will be teaching –I met a lot of the KS3 students I will be teaching and the group of KS4 students I will have for German in their year 11. –What do I think? Students need to start learning to think for themselves again!

How did I do? Seeing the school from a new perspective…Seeing the school from a new perspective… –I’ll come back to this one……….

How did I do? Experiencing the Autism UnitExperiencing the Autism Unit –This was a highlight! I shadowed three autistic boys for a day. What did I notice? “Arts” teachers appear to differentiate more effectively than maths or science when it comes to the “softer skills” of engaging these students. –Support staff attached to the “centre” care deeply about their students.

How did I do? Observing other Curriculum areas with a view to integrating these into MFL lessons.Observing other Curriculum areas with a view to integrating these into MFL lessons. –Geography, Music & History lend themselves to a CLIL approach but I will need the buy-in of those subject areas..

How did I do? Understanding the SoW & MTPUnderstanding the SoW & MTP –I have the SoW and the MTP plans that relate to what I will be teaching. My task is to study, rewrite where appropriate and make them as interesting as possible in line with the school approach.

School sanctions policies need to be followed consistently if they are to have any effect Some teachers appeared to have given up on certain students!
