When the QB hands off or tosses the ball to one of the players to be ran down the field. When the QB throws the ball to one of the catchers.

The leader of the team. They call the plays in the huddle, yells the signals at the line of scrimmage, and receives the ball from the center. They can either: hand off the ball to a running back, throws it to a receiver, or runs with it.

The player that snaps the ball to the QB. They handles the ball on every play. They also block.

A player who runs with the football. Also referred to as tailbacks, halfbacks, and rushers.

Player who uses speed to avoid defenders and catch the football.

The outer two members of the offensive line. Block the defenders from getting to the QB or (anyone with the ball).

Maintains their positions in order to stop a running play. Or to get to the QB for a sack* Sack*- Tackling the QB before he makes the play.

Behind the defensive linemen. Generally the team’s best tacklers. Dual role of defending the runs and the passes.

Players who line up on the wide parts of the field. Generally the opposite side of the wide receivers. They are there to stop the main running plays.

They defend the deep passes and the running plays.
