Descriptive Essay Assignment Think of your favorite place to eat. Describe your favorite meal at this place so that someone reading your paper will know what makes it your favorite. You should include 3 or 4 details that will really give your reader a sense of why this is your favorite meal!

THINGS TO CONSIDER All essays must be five paragraphs. Each body paragraph must have 5 sentences. All essays must be written in blue or black ink. Do not skip lines between paragraphs. Spelling and grammar will be graded. All essays are due on January 16, 2009.

Characteristics of a Good Descriptive Essay Create a picture in your reader’s mind. Give as much detail as possible. Tell your reader everything they need to know. Paint a picture with words.

Characteristics of a Good Descriptive Essay Relive an experience Stay true to your original experience, but don’t be afraid to embellish! Contain specific details Tell me about your favorite meal. Be sure to describe an experience you have had, stay true to your original, but don’t be afraid to exaggerate a little!

Use Your Senses ! Sight - What did the meal look like? Taste - What did your meal taste like? Smell – What did the meal smell like?

Organization is Key Introduction - 3-5 sentences, introduce topic Body paragraphs - 5 sentences each, decide how you want to organize these. Have a plan!! Conclusion - 3-5 sentences, wrap up everything!

The Descriptive Plan Pick one subject. State your effect. In this case, you want to make your reader feel hungry. Choose three details. Each detail gets a paragraph. Construct your introduction and conclusion using the subject, effect, and details.
