Adaptations

What do you see?

Leafy see dragon A fish found in the ocean near southern and western Australia. It feeds on small shrimplike organisms and plankton. The leafy see dragon grows to about 1.5 ft

Answer the questions from the video What are the traits of the leafy see dragon? Why do you think it is called a dragon? How might the different traits and characteristics of a leafy see dragon help in survival How might the traits help in finding food and avoiding predators?

What are some characteristics or traits that are common to all birds How are the traits different?

Why are the traits of some birds different from the traits of other birds??

What do we do to adopt to the environment? Write three examples

Adaptations An adaptation is an inherited trait (characteristic passed on from parents) that increases an organism’s chance of survival in a particular environment

Types of adaptations Physical - External – on the outside of the body (examples: fur, camouflage, paws, etc.) -Internal – on the inside of the body (gills in fish, hollow bones in birds, xylem in plants) -Water transport in a plant -Bird evolution and adaptations

Types of adaptations Behavioral - Migration – movement of animals from one place to another - Hibernation – sleep like state Creation vs. Evolution – Amazing Bird Migration Black bear and cubs in hibernation
