Freeform Software Overview Benefits and Features Designs Summary

Optical Benefits of Freeform Progressive on the back surface to maximize fields of view in the corridor and reading areas. Front surface progressive field of view Back surface progressive field of view Accurately reproduces the intended progressive design Prescription alignment is guaranteed Prescription accuracy is not limited by tooling steps available in lab.

Freeform Software Features EyeView Technology improves lenses for real life viewing This is possible because ophthalmic lenses have oblique power errors which are present when viewing away from the optical centre of the lens. EyeView technology uses specially developed software which incorporates the results of raytracing over the entire lens to correct for these errors. Back Vertex Distance and Pantoscopic Tilt are used in these complex calculations. Can use circular or elliptical crib shapes to reduce lens thickness Allows variable decentration to further reduce thickness Controls minimum thickness for rimless frames Special curve control in reading area resulting in flatter lenses Allows blocked prism, surface prism or a combination of both

Freeform Software Features As worn prescription compensation The software adjusts the Sphere cylinder axis of the prescription to take into account the individual’s pantoscopic tilt face bow (or wrap angle) back vertex distance Variable inset Optional edge blending for high powers Central circular aperture unchanged Available on both single vision and progressives Edge thickness benefit on minus lenses Centre thickness benefit on plus lenses Limited by generator cutter radius on plus lenses Variable aperture diameter Two levels of blending: Level 1 - Moderate Level 2 - High

Freeform Designs Single Vision designs

Freeform Designs Custom Single Vision Custom Single Vision Lenses minimise unwanted astigmatism associated with conventional single vision lenses. The combination of a spherical front surface and a freeform aspherical or atoric design on the back results in a lens with superior optical performance not only on the horizontal and vertical axes but over the entire lens surface. There are also benefits to be gained both in terms of thickness and cosmetic appearance as flatter base curves can be used without sacrificing optical performance.

Standard Single Vision lenses Freeform Designs Standard Single Vision lenses Spherical +4.00 lens Toric +4.00 -2.00 lens This analysis shows the unwanted astigmatism of two different single vision lenses, one spherical and one toric over a range of gaze angles. Once the eye moves away from the central viewing position and looks obliquely through the lens, unwanted astigmatism is present.

Custom Single Vision lenses Freeform Designs Custom Single Vision lenses Aspheric +4.00 lens Atoric +4.00 -2.00 lens When the same analysis is done on Custom Single Vision Lenses, nearly all of the unwanted astigmatism that was in the standard single vision lenses is no longer present. This reduction in aberration is achieved not only on the horizontal and vertical axes but over the entire lens surface. The differences are particularly marked towards the periphery of the lens compared with the conventional single vision lenses.

Freeform Designs Progressive designs

Freeform Designs Custom 14 14mm corridor Cylinder Map Power Map Dimensions 2mm 12mm Addition Inset 2.25mm Short corridor (14mm to full addition power) Minimum fitting height of 15mm Low distortion soft, aspheric design Individual designs for left and right eyes Available in 1.498, 1.56, 1.586, 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74 indices The Custom 14 progressive is designed specifically for frames with small eye sizes. This is achieved in a soft design without compromising the distance, corridor and reading areas.

Freeform Designs Custom 16 16mm corridor Cylinder Map Power Map Dimensions 2mm 14mm Addition Inset 2.5mm 16mm corridor length to full addition power Minimum fitting height of 17mm Low distortion soft, aspheric design Individual designs for left and right eyes Available in 1.498, 1.56, 1.586, 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74 indices Custom 16 successfully combines a soft design with wide distance, intermediate and reading areas. This design also benefits from having low rates of change of mean power yet maintains good dynamic vision throughout.

Freeform Designs Custom 18 18mm corridor Cylinder Map Power Map Dimensions 2mm 16mm Addition Inset 2.5mm Low distortion soft design Minimum fitting height of 19mm Wide usable corridor Individual designs for left and right eyes 18mm corridor length to full addition power Available in 1.498, 1.56, 1.586, 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74 indices The Custom 18 design with its low rates of change and levels of astigmatism provides good dynamic vision combined with generous intermediate and reading areas. Maximum astigmatism is located on the nasal side where most of it will be edged away.
