page: 2 Project scope To propose solutions to increase rapidity and effectiveness of interventions following natural hazards and industrial accidents, in order to enhance citizens' safety and communications between rescue actors. Context: Environmental risk management of:  Natural hazards (e.g. flash floods)  Industrial accidents (e.g. chemical plant explosion) Time: disaster response Goal: To improve how information is prepared, accessed and communicated  Between Authorities  For on-field rescue teams  From Authorities to citizens and vice-versa CRISIS AREA On-field rescue teams Authorities Citizens CHORIST system

page: 3 The CHORIST system = a toolbox The tools of CHORIST: 1.A fully integrated, reliable and performing risk assessment report system built upon:  existing heterogeneous sensors  existing monitoring agencies (meteorological, chemical…)  112 call centres 2.Heterogeneous communication means to dispatch to target groups multilingual messages from Authorities to citizens through (at least):  digital radio (DAB)  digital TV (DVB)  GSM cell broadcast  sirens... 3.Two secured, rapidly deployable and interoperable voice and high data-rate telecommunication systems:  Mobile TETRA TEDS cells (Wideband - some 100 Kbps)  WiMAX ad-hoc network (Broadband - some Mbps)
