Avionics shop objectives The basic objective of the Avionic Workshop policy is to test/repair Avionic components in accordance with airworthiness and company requirements whilst still allowing this function to be profitable. It is recognized that to achieve this objective requires the involvement of many sections within the Engineering department. The standard of workmanship shall be in accordance with the relevant component maintenance manuals and must comply with UAE GCAA requirements. All cases of ambiguity, conflicting requirements or absence of information will be brought to the attention of Avionic Development engineering for resolution in consultation with Quality Assurance. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module2

Avionics Shop ideal main features Air-conditioning. Lighting intensity in each room is commensurate with the nature of work. First Aid Kit and fire extinguishers are placarded and made available in designated area, while shop is monitored by central fire detection and alarm system. A well-ventilated cleaning bay, separate from the main shop has been provided. A zone for storing items not immediately required has been provided. AV Features cont’d general tools has been provided. A separate zone for racks holding unserviceable or units awaiting spares has been provided. Metallic test benches suitable for installation of test equipment and thereafter testing, inspection and repair of LRU's has been provided. All wiring in the shop and on the test benches is run through raised floor. Power supply voltage and frequency are monitored with suitable meters at convenient locations. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module4

AV Features cont’d Shop temperature and relative humidity are monitored. Cabinets for technical manuals, bulletins, specification sheets, modification leaflets and schematic diagrams have been provided along with each row of test benches. AV shop Obligations The workshop will be responsible for ensuring that all test and repair measuring equipment used in the Avionic Workshop is of the required accuracy and in good condition. All tools, gauges and precision measuring equipment shall be subject to periodic inspection and calibration to ensure that they conform with the specification requirements as recommended by Manufacturer. All workshop test panels and non-measuring equipment will be tested/calibrated against pre-calibrated equipment to ensure that they perform the desired functions. Readings will be recorded on Test/Calibration Record Form. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module6

AV Shop Obligations cont’d A copy of this form will be sent to Stores Inspector for the issue of a calibration sticker. Records of calibrations and inspection will be maintained by Avionics Workshop and shall be made available to UAE GCAA representative when requested. Adequate measures will be provided for the identification, preservation, segregation and for the movement of material in a manner that will prevent abuse, damage or deterioration in the Avionic Workshop. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module7

AV Shop Obligations cont’d All areas used for the storage of material shall be clean, dry, free from dust and corrosive vapors in accordance with the standards as recognized in airline industry. Secure quarantine stores will be provided to isolate and protect material pending use or disposal. Suspect material will be quarantined by inspection until acceptability or other disposition has been established. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module8

Avionics Workshop Management Responsibilities Ascertaining that all materials, dispatched after repair, have a satisfactory level of quality and have been tested and repaired in compliance with the applicable specifications in force and component manuals. Ensure that life control of components and accessories in the workshop is properly implemented. Responsible for maintenance (Repair, Overhaul and Testing) of airworthy avionics, equipment, electrical components, aircraft batteries and oxygen cylinders in the respective workshops. Also responsible for overall administration and performance of Avionics, Electrical, Battery, Gaseous workshops and headset service section. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module9

Avionics Workshop Management Responsibilities, cont’d Plan and execute maintenance of airworthy components coming into Avionics, Electrical and Battery shop. Plan and organize to fabricate necessary Basic Test Rigs for testing components, to be included later in the capability list. Establish/customise test setup and procedures for testing and repair of components based on manufacturer/vendor recommendations. Plan and execute in-house capability list and update the scope of approval in coordination with Development and Quality Assurance. Organise the training of personnel to cater for new test equipment/developments. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module10

Avionics Workshop Management Responsibilities, cont’d Ensure maintenance/update of all documentation associated with the repair of components like manuals, drawings etc. Ensure that components/equipment is released by authorized Engineer/Technician. Liaise with Materials purchase /Stores with respect to in- house/outside agent repairs. Liaise with Quality Assurance section with respect to calibration of test equipment/test benches. Keep abreast of modern techniques involved in the maintenance/repair and overhaul of avionics and accessories components. Perform any other functions or undertake any project given by superiors. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module11

Avionics Engineer Responsibilities Responsible for overhaul, repair, inspection, testing, data loading and software development of avionics components. Carry out inspection, testing, repair, overhaul, data loading and software development of avionics components. Certify task accomplished in the work shop. Fabricate test rigs for testing components. Prepare and maintain proper documents for the work carried out in the work shop. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module12

Avionics Engineer Responsibilities Cont’d Maintain and update documents associated with avionic/electrical equipment like manuals, drawings etc. Liaise with Materials Purchase/Stores with respect to in- house/outside agent repair. Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of tools, equipment and work place. Co-ordinate with Quality Assurance and Engineering Development with respect to shop capability. Keep abreast of latest developments in aircraft maintenance and engineering. Perform any other function/task given by superiors. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module13

Avionics Technician/Mechanic Responsibilities Responsible for repair/overhaul/testing of avionics and electrical components in Avionics and Electrical workshop. Ensure that received avionics/electrical components has proper documentation. Carry out tasks including dismantling, cleaning, inspection, repair, modification, assembling and testing. Use proper test benches, tools and test equipment for repair, overhaul and testing of components. Complete proper documentation for the work carried out and test results. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module14

Avionics Technician/Mechanic Responsibilities cont’d Ensure that job certified by him is within his scope of approval. Fabricate test benches for testing the components. Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of tools, equipment and work place. Perform any other functions/jobs assigned by the superiors. 14 October 2015 Aircraft Maintenance Module15
