Why choose “Dining In” for Healthy Families? There’s a nationwide obesity epidemic. Research has shown that “…children who take part in family meals are less likely to be overweight, eat more healthy foods, have less delinquency, greater academic achievement, improved psychological well-being, and positive family interactions. The whole family benefits from family mealtime. Encouraging families to prepare simple, healthy meals and eat together supports the essence of family and consumer sciences: “Creating Healthy and Sustainable Families.” Family & Consumer Sciences Day serves to promote family and consumer sciences programs, tools, and professionals that support family mealtime.

Why on December 3 rd ? December 3 rd was chosen to recognize AAFCS Founder Ellen Swallow Richards, first woman graduate of MIT, whose birthday is December 3 rd.

2015 Campaign Goals Double our 2014 results - 200,000 families make and eat a healthy meal together on December 3 rd Increase visibility and awareness of family and consumer sciences organizations, programs, resources, and professionals In 2014, we had 104,583 commitments to “Dining In” in: All 50 states 17 countries Every continent

2015 Campaign Goals Community of Public Policy wants to receive 100 proclamations for FCS Day.

How will we achieve these goals? You Your Family Your Associations/ Civic Groups Your Affiliate/State Special Ingredient

What you and your family can do Take a photo of your family preparing a healthy meal and post it to Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram using #FCSday and #healthyfamselfie. Change your Facebook profile photo to the I'm "Dining In" logo. Wear an I'm "Dining In" sticker. Ask your friends and family to "Dine In." Pin your favorite family meal recipes to a "Dining In" Pinterest board. Add the "Dining In" logo to your signature.

What your group or state can do Share our content with your social media followers and post your own content. Include the Family & Consumer Sciences Day flyer in your communications pieces or pass it out at affiliate meetings. your members and encourage them to "Dine In" on December 3rd! Highlight healthy food preparation resources you've already created. Download our proclamation template and customize it for your location. Then send it to your public official. Customize the press release template to share how your organization celebrated and send to local media.
