Welcome to Mrs. Hummel’s ELA Class

ELA Supplies ELA Folder Lined Notebook Paper Pen or pencil Composition Notebook

Journal Each student is required to purchase a composition notebook Journals will be kept in the classroom We will start using our journals on Monday

Grading Policy 20% Read-a-Palooza 10% Teen Biz 20% Classwork & Journal 20% Quizzes 30% Tests, Essays, and Projects

Tardy Policy When the bell rings, you must be ready to go! After being tardy 3 times, a detention will be assigned!

Class Procedures Class starts when the bell rings Need something to write with & I.R. book every day! Out the door activity (I dismiss you!!!)

Fire Drills Exit out the main doors. Stay together as a class toward the right side of the road. No talking during fire drills. ***2 detentions will be assigned for fire drill misbehavior.

Independent Reading For this year’s Read-a-Palooza you will be reading 2 books each marking period. 10 Teen Biz articles are to be completed each marking period- 1 article a week You will be given a raffle ticket after you earn your points. Independent Reading is worth 30% of your grade!!! (20% Chapter Challenges & 10% Teen Biz

What is Teen Biz? Teen Biz is a computer program to help your reading skills. You will read an article & answer questions You must pass the activity on the first try with at least a 65% for credit.

Book Library You may borrow up to 2 books from my library. Complete the information on the card in the book. The books you borrow are your responsibility!!!

After School Help 10 th period is for extra help in ELA The days I’m available are posted on the board each week. You must sign-up before 2pm to stay after school. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Computers in 254 Computers in Room 254 are for Teen Biz, Accelerated Reader, or Microsoft Word only. You must ask before using a computer.

What CAN’T I have in school? Cell Phones Personal I-Pods Drinks other than water Book Bags These items will be confiscated and a detention will be assigned!

What Mrs. Hummel expects… Respect (students, teacher, and property) Responsibility: Everyone is responsible for their own actions. I promise to treat you the same way!

Expectations Raise hand before speaking Listen when others are talking Follow directions Be ready and willing to work with EVERYONE in the class Be respectful of Mrs. Hummel’s supplies Always be the best you can be!

What will we be doing this year? Reading (DUH!) Analyzing literature Writing Research Listening Activities Poetry Most importantly…. Having fun while we learn!

Do we have assigned seats? Yes…. But they will change ALL THE TIME! Sometimes we work in: Groups Partners Stations Individually So… don’t get comfortable!
