Why Do We need Guru ? Can one become a doctor just by reading a few books? No! He needs professional training. In that similar way, one cannot reach Lord Krishna by himself. We need a Guru. A guru helps one attain Krishna by enlightening him with transcendental knowledge.

Why do we need a Guru? Why do we Need Guru? It is impossibleto reach Lord Krishna by ourselves. Prathaman tu gurum pujyam Tatas caiva mamarcanam Kurvan siddhim avapnoti hy Anyatha nisphalam bhavet "One must always worship one's guru first and only then worship Me (Lord Krishna) to get perfection. If one neglects this process, everything will be fruitless."

How does a Guru help us?  A frog trapped inside a deep well cannot come out by itself. It needs help to reach the outside.  Guru is connected to Lord Krishna and he translates the information to us.
