Metals (pink)

Properties Properties = observations you can make about something. Example = what are the properties of a football?

Most metals share these properties… Shiny Ductile Good Conductors of Electricity Malleable Good Conductors of Thermal Energy Solid at room temperature

SHINY You can see your reflection in a mirror because mirrors have a thin layer of silver (Ag) behind the glass.

DUCTILE Most metals are ductile, which means they can be made into thin wires.

Good CONDUCTORS of electricity Wires in electrical devices in your home are made of copper.

MALLEABLE Most metals are malleable, which means they can be flattened into thin sheets or formed into shapes without shattering. Aluminum (Al) can be flattened into sheets to make foil and cans.

Good CONDUCTORS of thermal energy Most metals are good at transferring heat. Iron (Fe) griddles conduct thermal energy from a stove top to cook food.
