The challenge The Olympic organising committee sought solutions based in advanced security management systems to ensure a pleasant and safe environment to a very large number of cardholders 15,000 athletes, 20,000 journalists, 10,000 Staff and workers
Specific Requirements In order to protect 10 of the main Olympic sites with has a combined total of over 2000 doors, the Olympic organization paid special attention to select a strong and reliable system that could work properly and reliably even in case of PC breakdowns. The ease of use of the system was also very important the requirement was to provide a user- friendly solution that could simplify access control management without compromising security. The system had to offer the ability to be integrated with their wider bespoke security management platform which was specially developed for the Olympic Games.
Meeting the Requirements The integration requirement was solved by utilizing a SQL database which is automatically updated via the Olympic committees software platform via an encrypted connection. Real time monitoring from with there software was achieved via an OPC interface. Sensor developed a special dynamic memory firmware allowing to save more events onto the IC controllers memory to ensure extra redundancy in the event of possible PC breakdowns. To simplify the access control management a single proximity badge was used for entering all the buildings and parking lots of the Olympic village including shops and restaurants spread throughout the site. For more limited access points such as clinics and sport facilities fingerprint readers installed.
Beijing Olympic Sites The Olympic Village Accommodates 15,000 athletes.
