BBB Helps resolve disputes between consumers and sellers Keeps a file of complaints against local businesses and supplies this information to consumers who ask for it. Educates consumers by providing information in printed tip sheets and booklets and on the internet Promotes honest advertising and selling practices.

Arbitration Boards Many appliance and auto companies have their own panels The arbitration board has the power to decide what the company will do when it receives a complaint Consumers have the right to take their case to court.

Cooling Off Period 3 days to change your mind for a product you agreed to buy in your home. After cooling off the consumer is bound by the contract

Small Claims Court - Max $1000 to 10,000 AdvantagesDisadvantages Don’t Need a lawyerMay have to pay defendant cost Court cost is only $200Collect judgment for yourself Most cases resolved quicklyIf the defendant decides they won’t pay. You must hire a lawyer and take case to a higher court to collect When cost is small it may cost too much for a higher court Last resort is to bring it to the Small Claims Court
