 Key goal of the Affordable Care Act – to decrease the number of the uninsured.   Major issue in this case – business L heard about Obama Care but its simply too expensive.  Uninsured Ages between 45 and 64 - more likely to be uninsured  Whites – 11.9%  Blacks – 20.9%  Hispanics 38.9%  6% of uninsured in the District of Columbia.   Uninsured face unaffordable bills   Uninsured receive less preventative care 

Strengths  Expertise/Experience: Each employee all have decades of experience in the healthcare, managerial, and business field.  Community Connections: The business has an excellent connection and a well-known reputation within the community. It caters to the retired elderly who are in need of a safe and engaging home environment. Weaknesses  Lack of Benefits: The business only provides those in the managerial and executive positions full benefits, including healthcare insurance.  Small Amount of Employee: There are not enough employees and to provide healthcare benefits to all it will not be cost efficient. Opportunities  Affordable Care Act: The Affordable Care Act includes a variety of provisions that reform the insurance market and encourage small businesses to offer health insurance. Through the Affordabbe Care Act, there is the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit which aids small business owners afford the cost of providing health care coverage for their employees and specifically targeting those low-and-middle income workers.  Online Accessibility to Healthcare Insurance: Small employers can now buy insurance for their employees online this year through the SHOP – the federal Small Business Health Options Program. Through SHOP the business control the coverage you offer and how much you pay toward employee premiums. Threats  Competition: Most group homes in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia area are providing healthcare insurance to their employees.  Loss of Key Staffs and Associates: With partial benefits provided to employees the business risk losing employees, low productivity, and increased absentee. Organizational Strengths and Weaknesses Living Sans Frontiers Group Home

 3 solutions to convince Living Sans Frontier (small business in Washington, DC) that healthcare insurance is essential and beneficial for their employees.  1) Reduce absenteeism- Healthcare insurance will reduce absenteeism, tardiness, and increase cleanliness in the workplace. If healthcare benefits are provided by the company, the number of employees who miss work due to illness and lack of health insurance will decrease.  1) Attraction- Many people looking for work today look for healthcare insurance benefits. Healthcare insurance will attract the best employees to the workforce if health benefits are provided.  1) Productivity- When employees know that they have health benefits because of the workplace they will be satisfied and loyal to the company. They will work harder because of the healthcare benefits that they are receiving.  What should be done for small businesses to provide health insurance to their employees?   Health insurance should be provided by small businesses to keep employees healthy and satisfied.  There are many healthcare insurance services that provide health insurance plans that can be set up easily for small businesses and their employees while helping small businesses save money on overall health care costs and also keeping employees informed and healthy.   These healthcare insurance services include Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) Marketplace, United Healthcare, Unicorn HRO, Holmes Murphy and many others. 

 1) How will you know when you have resolved the problems? (You must define measurable goals that have been put in place along with your recommendations)   We will know when the problem is resolved when more small businesses have chosen to invest in health care insurance for their workers. We want to show that small businesses will not suffer from providing health care insurance for their workers. Health care insurance can actually help the business by attracting the best workers, reducing absenteeism and by increasing productivity.   2) If you wish to increase satisfaction….how will you measure it?   If we want to increase satisfaction, we have to make sure that both the owners of the business and workers are happy. Meeting the needs of both sides is essential. Business owners will be open to health insurance if the cost is reasonable, while workers will be willing to work for a small business more efficiently if they are covered. We can measure the satisfaction of both sides by seeing how well the business is doing. How much money the workers bring in, how often people come into work etc.   3) Money is easiest to measure, but what else can be measured?  The amount of workers  The performance of workers  The amount of revenue that the small business is creating with health insurance or without   4) You should describe the evaluation plan that you wish to put in place to help assess if your recommendations are being reached.   The number one rule for convincing small businesses to take on health insurance is that make sure their needs dictate your coverage. You must provide quality care and offer excellent customer service. 
