The Road to Civil War

Vocabulary Popular Sovereignty – allowing people to decide. Civil War – A conflict between citizens of the same country. Arsenal – A storage place for weapons and ammunition. Martyr – a person who dies for a great cause.

These taxes helped the north but hurt the south. Nullification Crisis over tariffs during Andrew Jackson’s Presidency. Slavery – South relies on slave labor. North doesn’t allow slavery and doesn’t want it to spread to territories.
