Historical Figures Renaissance and Reformation

Martin Luther A Catholic monk whose ideas started the Protestant Reformation. He posted, his 95 Theses attacking the practice of selling Indulgences for the release of punishment for sin.

John Calvin an early convert to Protestantism who believed in the doctrine of predestination which states that God is all powerful and has already decided who will receive salvation and who will not.

Johannes Gutenberg He printed the first Bible in Europe made with moveable type, a printing process that allowed the ideas of the Protestant Reformation to spread rapidly.

Henry VIII When he wanted a divorce because his wife did not give him a son he established a Protestant church in England called the Anglican Church.

Elizabeth I Daughter of Henry VIII who turned the Anglican Church to a moderate form of Protestantism during her reign.
