2015 FACULTY PROJECT GRANT (Formerly Faculty Enrichment Grant)

The Faculty Project Grants awarded by Art Center Faculty Council invest in faculty projects to encourage innovation in their fields, make special projects possible, and advance art and design through experimentation and research.

Raises the bar for creative work.

Creates more qualified instructors.

Helps our students see exciting new work by their faculty.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM?

The funds for the grants come from the Samsung Endowment for Teaching and Learning, established in 1995.

HOW MUCH MONEY?

Faculty Council awards up to $40,000 annually in grants in amounts up to $5,000.

GUIDELINES

FPG awardees are required to produce objects, papers, exhibitions or other tangible results from their project.

All projects must be documented in a one page report and short presentation to the College.

Only one application will be accepted per applicant per calendar year.

WHAT MAKES FOR A GOOD PROJECT?

The project cannot be the documentation of work that has already been completed and/or exhibited.

The project cannot be the presentation of a paper that has already been written or already presented.

If the project is receiving funding from other sources (including any part of Art Center), this funding must be disclosed and the proposal must identify what the other funds will be used for in comparison to the funds from this grant.

The project’s execution can be completed and presented in a concrete way within a year of receiving the grant.

Equipment must be clearly specific to and required to complete the project. Proposals that exceed 30% allocation towards equipment must present detailed justification for the overage.

The grant would benefit Art Center College of Design through inspired and original faculty projects and advances in the fields of art or design.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE GRANT?

Faculty Project Grants are for all faculty members of Art Center who:

Have taught for at least four terms in the past two years.

Have not received a Faculty Project Grant (formerly Faculty Enrichment Grant) in the past three years.

Are not currently members of Faculty Council.

WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS DUE?

The completed digital grant application forms must be ed by midnight, SEPTEMBER 25TH, 2015 to

SEPTEMBER 25 TH !!!

Grant awards will be announced by Week 8 of the Fall term.

The grants will be presented at a faculty reception for the recipients hosted by Faculty Council.

Grantees will be asked to present a summary of their proposal at the reception.

Grants will be awarded in two installments: 90% at the award of the grant. 10% after the work has been completed and presented.

WHO DETERMINES WHO GETS THE GRANTS?

Decisions are based solely on the merits of each proposal.

A jury composed of five creative professionals representing a range of disciplines and perspectives review the proposals.

A member of Faculty Council, who does not vote on the applications, moderates the jury.

Jurors cannot be employees of Art Center.

All applicants names are withheld from the jury.

Examples of past applications may be viewed in the Art Center Archives.
