Gallup Poll 2014 Department of Teaching and Learning January 2015

What is the Gallup Student Poll? ●20 Question Survey for students in grades 5-12 ●3 Non-Cognitive Metrics: Hope, Engagement, Wellbeing ●Predictor of student success in academic and social development opportunities. ●Taken across the US each October ●We have a three year data set ●Funded in full by the Chamber of Commerce Q5 Initiative

Overall Data for the District

Hope - The ideas and energy we have for the future drives effort, academic achievement, credits earned, and retention of students of all ages. ●7,121 students ●6,343 students

What are the HOPE questions?

ENGAGEMENT - The involvement in and enthusiasm for school reflects how well students are known and how often they get to do what they do best. ●Engagement is mostly about school ●The numbers in engage- ment are not unique to #186, as students age, engagement numbers decline nationally. ●District Professional Development is focusing on Student Engagement at Teaching and Learning Symposiums

What are the Engagement questions?

Well-being - How we think about and experience our lives tells us how students are doing today and predicts their success in the future. ●Well-being is a reflection of students’ perceptions of their current lives and their future lives ●This number comes from their lives outside of school, activities in which they are engaged, and well-being during the school day.

What are the Well-being questions?

Expectations for Schools Schools share/analyze their Individual School Scorecards then: ●Create a plan to build on successes for each metric: Hope, Engagement and Well-being ●Choose a data point on which to focus ●Share the plan with partners, PTO, staff and students
