The effective teacher is an extremely good classroom manager.

What Not to Do!

Ineffective Teacher… Stands behind the desk glaring inspecting everyone walking in with a look that says, youre infringing on my space Never mentions his or her name, the room number, the class, the grade level. Never welcomes the class No where in sight when kids arrive. Announces that he/she will call the role. Yells for them to sit down. Does not provide assignment, and therefore students have nothing to do.

Starting off on the right foot

Effective Teacher Greets students at the door with a smile, and a handshake. Has a seating assignments and first class assignment ready. Re-introduce self Explains procedures and routines. Tell s students their expectations by using the words YOU WILL Works on having a well managed classroom. Establishes consistency in the classroom. Has students working on task Ineffective Teacher Walks in after students without acknowledging the class. Shuffles students after they have already been seated. Does not introduce him/ herself. Tells but does not rehearse procedures. Is asked repeatedly “What are we doing today?” Yells and flicks lights. Teacher makes up rules and punishes according to his or her mood.
