DEVELOPING AN AWARENESS FOR YOUR COMMUNITY Lesson 2

Next Generation Science/Common Core Standards Addressed! WHST Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience. (HS-PS1-2) WHST Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects to answer a question (including a self-generated question) or solve a problem; narrow or broaden the inquiry when appropriate; synthesize multiple sources on the subject, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation. (HS-PS1-3)

What is community Service? Community service is performing activities that improve the quality of life in a community.

Service Service is helping others or providing for others through helpful acts.

Community Service Campaign A community service campaign is an organized and intense effort to carry out an activity.

Benefits of community service Give People a new outlook on life. Provide Learning experiences. Pull a community together.

Responsible citizenship is an asset that is respected by others.

Many service projects require volunteerism. A volunteer is an individual who willingly performs a service without monetary rewards.

Volunteering in time of Need Sometimes people are called to provide volunteer service during periods of disaster.

Team Work Service projects teach people to work together for a common cause.
