Student's participation in the Departmental research Dr. Jan Skaloš Department of Landscape Ecology Czech University of Life Sciences, Faculty of Environmental Sciences January Faculty of Environmental Sciences

Dept. of Landscape Ecology Deals with all the issues concerning landscape research from theory to practice

Praha Located in Kostelec nad Černými lesy Kostelec nad Černými lesy

Department located in a beautiful and inspiring surroundings of the Renaissance castle All the necessary equipment for work, including the GIS laboratory Students take a big advantage of the equipment during the education process (lectures, seminars, work on thesis)

Examples of research projects with student participation No. 2B08006 New approaches to enable effective research practices for remediation and reclamation of devastated areas No. QH82106 Reclamation as a water regime recovery tool of the landscape after surface mining of brown coal

Overall goals of the projects To analyse present state and functions of the post-mining landscape. To integrate a holistic scientific approach to landscape features in the reclamation procedures. On the basis of scientific outputs to propose a conceptual scenario of the total rehabilitation of the landscape.

Czech Republic Krusne hory region Sokolov Most Sokolov basin Medard mine area

Examples of concrete case studies in the project Analysis and evaluation of landscape changes: –Changes in land use –Functional changes in the landscape

Example of student participation 1.Field data collection, such as mapping the current state of the landscape 2.Processing maps 3.Processing and Analysis data in GIS 4.Processing tabular and graphical outputs 5.Data Visualization, incl. 3D modelling of landscape change
