 May 5, 1789: Second Estate forces a meeting of the Estates General to approve new tax.  According to medieval rules, each estate gets one vote.  How is that fair? SHOULD I RAISE TAXES ON THE SECOND ESTATE? First Estate votes NO !! Second Estate votes NO !! First And Second Estates Always voted Together

How come we never win? Third Estate- Bulk of the population, and only one vote!

 National Assembly:  Abbe Sieyes, a sympathetic clergyman, suggests Third Estate name themselves the National Assembly and pass laws & reforms in name of people.  June 17, 1789 National Assembly is established Abbe Seyes What is the 3rd Estate? Everything What has it been?NOTHING! What does it want to be? SOMETHING!

 Tennis Court Oath:  Louis XVI tries to lock Third Estate out from meeting  Break into an indoor tennis court and pledged to stay until a new constitution was drawn up.

 Peasant feared the nobles would react by hiring outlaws to terrorize them.  Destroyed legal papers, and in some instances burned down homes  Parisian women rioted over the price of bread.  Stormed into Versailles and for King Louis XVI & Queen Marie Antoinette to Paris.  Why Paris?
