We Can Rejoice in the Lord Because Our Citizenship Is in Heaven (Philippians 3:17-21)

A Brief Review This is the 14 th installment in this series of lessons in which we are learning to rejoice in the Lord as Christians! We have undertaken this series of lessons so that we can increase our faithfulness to Him and so that we can improve our outreach to others!

Two Main Thoughts We can rejoice in the Lord because our citizenship is in heaven! (3:20,21) We should never allow others to rob us of the citizenship that is ours from God. (3:17-19)

Our Citizenship Is in Heaven! We do not belong here! As Christians we understand that where we are right now is not our home! We are to consider ourselves nothing more than strangers, pilgrims, and sojourners. (Hebrews 11:13-16; I Peter 1:17; 2:11)

Our Citizenship Is in Heaven! This foreign land in which we live is filled with trials, tribulations, testings, temptations, troubles, tragedies, tumults, trepidations, and tensions! No wonder Paul said that we eagerly wait for a Savior! (I Corinthians 1:7-9; Galatians 5:5; Titus 2:13)

Our Citizenship Is in Heaven! We should also eagerly wait for the Savior because there is a better body, a better existence, and a better life that awaits us! (Romans 8:23-25; II Cor. 5:1-8) The Bible has much to say about this transformed body that the faithful children of God will receive. (I Corinthians 15:39-49)

Let No One Rob Us of Our Citizenship! The key description given concerning those who are enemies of the cross of Christ is that their mind is on earthly things. These people seek for us to do the same and in so doing desire that we renounce our citizen- ship. We can overcome this by continuing to seek those things that are above. (Colossians 3:1-4)
