Bradford Brothers Megan Thiesse Period 4

The oldest brother was Thomas, then George, then James, then Roland.

The Bradford Brothers were four brothers who fought in the same war together. They fought for the British Army. All of them died except one, Thomas Bradford.

All of the Bradford Brother’s earned awards during the war. George and Roland earned the same award, Thomas and James earned different ones.

Roland Bradford was killed in WWI at the age of 25. He was the youngest sibling of the Bradford family.

Roland Bradford earned the was awarded the Victoria Cross award during the “Great War”. He was a brigadier general for the British Army.

Roland was the youngest Brigadier General in the British Army. Roland was the most famous of the brother’s, he joined the DLI and went to France in September with the second battalion of the regiment.

Roland Bradford died on November 10, He was killed at Cambrai, France in the first major tank battle in history.

James Bradford died from severe wounds at the age of 27. James Bradford was the third youngest of the brother’s.

James Bradford was awarded the Military Cross for his courage during WWI. James was awarded the Military Cross during action at Gommecourt, France.

James married Annie Wall in the summer of They did not have any children while they were married.

James was awarded this medal of honor. He earned this by leading troops to an enemy trench, and captured many enemies and two machine guns.

George Bradford died on his 31 st birthday in action. He was the second youngest sibling in the family.

George Bradford was awarded the Victoria Cross along with his brother Roland. George was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery at the raid on Zeebrugge harbour.

George was so called the “hero sportsman”. George played all sorts of sports while in the army, physical fitness was a necessity.

George died during the raid of Zeebrugge blockade. This happened in April 1918.

Thomas Bradford died in He was the oldest of the Bradford Brother’s.

Thomas Bradford was the only brother to survive in WWI. He was badly wounded in 1916, but he still survived.

Thomas Bradford was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He served as a Captain with the eighth battalion, and he was also a Brigade Major.

A curator from the Durham Light Infantry put together a story of the Bradford Brother’s. “He once said he felt he was the coward of the family because he survived the war,” Mr. Shannon says.

All the Bradford Brother’s were hero’s and wouldn’t be forgotten.
