Identifies “ Information Technology and Creative Practices “ (ITCP) as a source of economic development within “knowledge society” Insists on importance of “regional clusters” defined by connectivity: –Mixture of local, geographically defined, and strong collaborations with distant nodes facilitated by information technology Need to design in the mix of “on line” and “face to face” interaction.

R.MALINA/A.BUREAUD UNESCO LINZ MASTERCLASSE WORKSHOP Context of Master Class Development Bottom up definition, build on actual needs; Long term view ( more than 10 years). UNESCO Digiarts now has several proposals from within the arab world to host masterclasses; Start somewhere Segment the customers: educators, creators, researchers, Problem of Sustainability: Institutional Frameworks, art/technology poses specific problems of mismatch of institutional structures and rapidly developing inter-disciplinary practice –Master Class topics should opportunistically respond to identified real needs. Not duplication existing on line instruction. Need to work in “ on line” collaboration; Technology needs may drive selection of host organisations.
