Sustainable WCS Projects In India

1.2 Billion without safe water 2.5 Billion without sanitation 6,000 children dying daily A Recipe for Unsustainable Development

WOMEN CARRY WATER FOR KILOMETERS SARISKA FOREST-WOMEN WALKED 7 KM. CHECK- DAMS, THE SOLUTION.

Rain water harvesting and a check dam resulted in the women and girl children of Sariska having the time for education and earning a livelihood. Merely digging bore wells would have only resulted in depleting existing water resources. A CHECK DAM WAS BUILT IN THE DESERT OF RAJASTHAN

U.N. Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Goal # 7 By 2015, reduce by 50 % the proportion of people without access to safe water and sanitation. Too many people, too little water. All population projects could have a safe water component. Population issues seek to ensure a higher quality of life for families. Every Rotarian has to become aware of population and world water issues.

Many clubs are already involved: Drilling and rehabilitating wells Rainwater harvesting Purifying water: bio-sand filter Solar disinfecting (SODIS) Mini-pipelines Integrated water management We need to integrate population and reproductive issues with integrated water management.

FACTORIES HAVE DESTROYED WATER BODIES

WATER LITERACY Industries have destroyed water bodies and endangered the health of communities living there. Rainwater harvesting, cleaning water-ways and public education can prevent them.

260 WELLS DUG LAST YEAR Digging wells is not enough. We need to invest in rain water harvesting. In the state of Tamil Nadu, no building licenses are given without rain water harvesting structures. Engineering students, who are Rotractors, have got involved in this work.
