TrueSTEAM™ Humidification Systems Module 7: Maintenance and Service

Maintenance - Understanding cleaning cycles - How to manually clean TrueSTEAM - How to replace the water filter Service - How to identify fault root causes - How to fix faults

Cleaning Cycles Designed to dilute the concentration of water hardness in the TrueSTEAM tank Automatic cleaning cycles - Remove concentration of dissolved minerals still in the water, which slows the accumulation of solid mineral scale and sediment Manual cleaning cycles - Remove concentration of dissolved minerals - Allows user to clean out solid mineral scale and sediment

Manual Cleaning Step 1: Indication PRES S EMPTY blinks to indicate manual cleaning is required - Note, TrueSTEAM will still operate even when this light is blinking Press and hold the EMPTY button until the CLEAN TANK light begins blinking - This indicates a flushing cycle has initiated When CLEAN TANK is on solid - Flushing cycle is complete and tank is empty - The tank is now safe to remove

Manual Cleaning Step 2: Tank Removal Turn red handle counter- clockwise to “Unlock’ position Release solenoid by pushing back on grip Grip tank bottom With other hand, press down cover handle release, and pull handle forward

Manual Cleaning Step 3: Cleaning Tank cleaning - Use tap water to flush loose sediment from tank - Apply cleaning agent (list below) to cloth or paper and scrub residual scale from tank walls - Screen is removable for cleaning - Tank is dishwasher safe - Recommended cleaning agents  CLR  Lime-Away  White Vinegar  Do not use hydrocarbon oil based Element cleaning - Apply cleaning agent and let soak for 10 minutes - Carefully rub scale off with cloth or paper 1.2.

Manual Cleaning Step 4: Reconnect Tank Ensure sensor compartment fill holes are clear of debris. Ensure gasket is properly seated in chassis before reconnecting tank.

Manual Cleaning Step 4: Re-Engage Tank Attach the tank by securing the latch. Engage the white water valve to the tank’s black spool, then turn the manual shut-off valve to the “Lock” position and plug in the power cord. Check that TrueSTEAM is still mounted level and is securely in place on the mounting bracket.

Changing the Water Filter Replace the inline filter at least per season: - Turn the water supply off at the saddle valve or T-fitting. - Press down filter collar ring and pull out ¼” water line from each side. - Insert the ¼” lines into new filter. Apply modest pull to ensure a tight fit. - Secure the new filter in place.

Inspect Water Level Sensor Remove T20 Torx screw, then slide cover out front. Remove T30 Torx screw and lift hinge and remove sensor assembly for inspection. CAUTION: Electrocution hazard. TrueSTEAM must be unplugged before removing the cover. - If excessive debris is present, replace sensor pack: Replacement sensor part # Also available bundled with water filter #

Final Maintenance Steps Clear duct from ventilation holes and debris from drain tube. After cleaning, initiate a humidity call and check that there are no water or steam leaks on TrueSTEAM or the water lines. While on vacation, it is recommended you turn the humidity control to ‘off’. TrueSTEAM will drain and remain empty after 48 hours without a humidity call.

Service and Diagnostics

Service Interface Call Service Light on indicates a fault detected Press and hold ‘Reset’ until Call Service light blinks - Refer to troubleshooting guide for fault details Basic, categorized descriptions and quick-fix steps provided in following slides Refer to installation guide’s troubleshooting section for more detail

Faults Related to the Heating Element # of blinks DescriptionPossible part(s) affected Possible root cause and quick fix suggestions Note: Should any fault persist after performing quick fixes below, refer to manual’s troubleshooting section for more detailed next steps. 1Temperature sensor overheated Thermistor within heating element This fault indicates the temperature sensor itself has shorted. Attempt to clear the fault by pressing and holding the Reset or Go button. If the fault persists, the TrueSTEAM will need to be replaced. 4Element overheated Scale on the heating element Likely caused by scaling on the heating element. Manually clean the element and replace the water filter. After cleaning, ensure DIPs 1-2 are set for either 5-hour or 8-hour flush intervals. 8-11Element relay failed Relays within the heating element Attempt to clear the fault by pressing and holding in the “Reset’ or ‘Go’ button (depending on the model you have). If the fault returns, the heating element has faulted and the TrueSTEAM unit will need to be replaced. 14Element failed to boil water Scale/sediment in tank Solenoid valve What may have happened is debris has stuck the solenoid valve open, allowing cool water to continuously enter tank as it attempts to boil. Likely caused by excessive scale/sediment. Manually clean the tank and replace the water filter. With the water tank removed, inspect the solenoid orifice and clear debris if present. After cleaning, ensure DIPs 1-2 are set for either 5-hour or 8-hour flush intervals.

Faults Related to Water Delivery/Monitoring # of blinks DescriptionPossible part(s) affectedPossible root cause and quick fix suggestions Note: Should any fault persist after performing quick fixes below, refer to manual’s troubleshooting section for more detailed next steps. 2Water sensors failed Water level sensor assembly Likely caused by scaling on the sensor assembly contacts. Follow steps to inspect sensor assembly. Replace if excessive scaling is present. 3Failed to fill Saddle/shutoff supply valve Solenoid valve Ensure the water supply is fully open, and that water pressure is above 30 psi. Also ensure no kinks or leaks exist in the water lines. 6Water overflow detected Water level sensor assembly Scale/sediment in tank If TrueSTEAM is remotely installed, then back-pressures in the remote hose pushing steam back into the tank may be a cause. Ensure accurate remote hose installation. Excessive water hardness may also cause water frothing that bubbles into the overflow chamber. Manually clean TrueSTEAM and replace water filter. After cleaning, ensure DIPs 1-2 are set for either 5-hour or 8-hour flush intervals. 13Failed to drain Solenoid valve Scale/sediment in tank Likely caused by excessive scale/sediment. Manually clean the tank and replace the water filter. After cleaning, ensure DIPs 1-2 are set for either 5-hour or 8-hour flush intervals. Blinking ‘Press Empty’ or ‘Cleaning Required’ light Scale/sediment in tankLikely caused by excessive scale/sediment. Manually clean the tank and replace the water filter. After cleaning, ensure DIPs 1-2 are set for either 5-hour or 8-hour flush intervals.

Faults Related to Circuitry/Wiring # of blinks DescriptionPossible part(s) affectedPossible root cause and quick fix suggestions Note: Should any fault persist after performing quick fixes below, refer to manual’s troubleshooting section for more detailed next steps. 5Input voltage insufficient Home’s power supplyVerify the power circuit is not overloaded, and that the power outlet meets amp capacity requirements of your TrueSTEAM model. NOTE: Requires interaction with home’s line voltage. Must be qualified to handle line-voltage. 7HVAC power not present TrueSTEAM DIP 4If DIP 4 is down, then TrueSTEAM’s R and C terminals must be wired to an external transformer (either the HVAC system’s or a separate transformer controlling a remote fan). With DIP 4 down, TrueSTEAM is trying to verify that power is present at the transformer before allowing humidity. 12Circuit board overheated Location of TrueSTEAM installation. Ensure TrueSTEAM is installed in a location with temperatures within range of 34F to 104F. If outside this range, TrueSTEAM will fault. Also ensure the ventilation holes of TrueSTEAM’s cover is clear of debris to ensure proper air movement, and that TrueSTEAM is not in a completely enclosed space such as within a sealed cabinet. Ensure proper ventilation to ensure TrueSTEAM performance. 15No airflow sensed TrueSTEAM DIP 5If DIP 5 is up, TrueSTEAM’s R and C terminals must be wired in-line with an air proving device to the system transformer. With DIP 5 up, TrueSTEAM is trying to verify air movement via an external proving device before allowing humidity Wireless communication overloaded or lost RedLINK wireless adaptor and TrueSTEAM ABCD terminal TrueSTEAM DIP 3 and 4 Ensure the adaptor’s ABCD terminals are appropriately connected to TrueSTEAM’s ABCD terminals. Also ensure TrueSTEAM’s DIP 3 and 4 are up. Next try reestablishing wireless connection between control and humidifier.
