CCSD Course Scope: This one-year course is designed to familiarize students with theatre and its purpose, structure, effectiveness, and cultural value. Class work focuses on student performance through demonstration of various acting skills. Continuous emphasis will be made to develop awareness and self-expression, to increase general knowledge of theatre, and to encourage social adjustment. This course will fulfill either the one art/humanities credit or one of the elective credits required for graduation.

CCSD Course Goals: To create performance through improvising scripts based on personal experience and heritage, imagination, literature, and history. To act by developing, communicating, and sustaining characters in improvisations and informal productions. To interpret dramatic texts, and organize and conduct rehearsals for informal productions. To discuss cultural and historical information in support of artistic choices. To explore and make connections between art forms by analyzing traditional theatre, dance, music, visual arts, new art forms, and other academic disciplines. To evaluate informal and formal theatre productions. To distinguish the components of theatrical production including play script writing and directing.
