Stacey Logan & Jeremy Simms

Jeremy Simms Early Life by Dexter Ward Jeremy Simms was a young white boy who was born in Spokane County, Mississippi in He lived on a farm with a cotton field. He lived with his mother, father, his older sister Lillian Jean, and his 2 older brothers Melvin and R.W. He went to school in Jefferson Davis school district. It’s an all white school district and they are right next to an all black school district. When Jeremy Simms was young, he used to play a lot on his farm. He lived next to a black family called the Logans. The kids’ names are Stacey, Cassie, Christopher John and Little Man. They used to all play together. They played tag all summer. Since the Logans were neighbors they used to play with each other all the time because they didn’t know any thing about racism and their parents didn’t tell them about any thing because they were too young. They didn’t know any thing about racism until school because they noticed that they went to different schools. Jeremy went to an all white school and the Logans went to an all black school. Since he was in an all white school he heard people talk bad about black people. That did not stop him from being friends with the Logans. He ignored his classmates. He had a racist family. His family treated black people like they were animals. One time he walked the Logans to school and his family members caught him with them. After that they beat him up. He was the only one in his family that wasn’t racist. He wanted to help blacks get their equal rights. He wanted everybody to be the same and for no one to have a problem with black people and white people being together. Jeremy Simms is so nice to black people that for Christmas he gave Stacy a whistle. On the other hand, his brothers were very racist and mean. They got this black boy named T.J in very big trouble. It all started when T.J. wanted a really cool gun at this shop. When T.J, Melvin and R.W. got there the store was closed. So then they tried to sneak in. So when they got in the store Mr. Granger (the person that owned the store) came down stairs because he heard something. Then when the kids saw him they knocked him out. Then when his wife came, she fell down the stairs and she got knocked out too. After that the kids went outside and T.J. said that he was going to tell, R.W. and Melvin beat him. After that, when he got home, that night men came and beat him up because the Simms brothers told on him and said that he did it all. He went to jail for assaulting a white man. After all those incidences he decided that he wanted to fight for equal rights for black people. Since he wanted to fight for civil rights he took little steps to becoming a civil rights leader. When he got to high school he did all types of things to be a civil rights leader, like joining the mock trial group, and the debate team. He worked really hard to get good grades. The only bad grade that he ever got was an f on his English essay. He got an f on his essay because he wrote something about helping African- Americans. He didn’t want to fail just because he was talking about what should be right. So he worked really hard to get accepted to YALE UNIVERSITY.

Jeremy’s 10 th grade Journal Writing for his English Class Take A Stand by Jeremy Simms Today we treat blacks like they are slaves even though they stopped being slaves after the civil war ended. We treat them like they are not real people on this earth but they are. All people on this earth should be treated like every one else. The rich and wealthy should be friends with the poor and un-wealthy. The slaves should be friends with the slave owners. The whites should be friends with the blacks. The world shouldn’t be filled with war and violence. It should be filled with peace and harmony. Every one in this world is the same so we all should be treated the same. Don’t judge a person by the color of their skin but by the person they really are. You can’t judge a book by the cover, can you? So take a stand and try to help segregation end.
