Midterm Review

Types of Sentences A declarative sentence tells something. It ends with a period. An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark. An imperative sentence gives an order. It ends with a period OR an exclamation point. An exclamatory sentence expresses strong feelings. It ends with an exclamation point.

Subjects The subject is what (or whom) the sentence is about When the subject is only one word it is called a simple subject. A complete subject contains all the words that tell who or what the sentence is about. Team trophies covered the boy's bedroom walls.

Predicates The predicate tells something about the subject. When the predicate is only one word it is called a simple predicate. A complete predicate contains all the words that tell what the subject is or does. The letter Max wrote was lost in the mail.

Subjects and Predicates Chocolate is used to make thousands of desserts around the world. Chocolate lava cake with a molten hot center is my favorite dessert! made with white and milk chocolate. (Add Anything)made with white and milk chocolate. Every complete sentence must have a subject and predicate

Frame of a Paragraph Sentence 1 Topic Sentence – Introduce the topic of the paragraph in a interesting way. Sentence 2-4 Detail Sentences – Give details about your topic. Be specific and descriptive. Sentence 5 Closing Sentence – Restate the topic but in a different way.

Eating in the Student Center is a pleasant experience Eating in the Student Center is a pleasant experience. The food is excellent, well prepared, and tastes delicious. There is a wide variety of food to choose from like hamburgers, tacos, pizza, and chicken. Moreover, each person serves his or herself, selecting just what he or she wants. The environment in the Student Center is also positive. Many happy young people are talking and laughing. However, the atmosphere is still calm; it’s possible to study and do homework. It is nice to go to the student center cafeteria once in a while, if feel a little like home away from home.
