STUDENT TEACHING Professionals Influencing Lives

WELCOME … to this next part of your educational journey! Prayer of support and encouragement! – Dr. Knowles

Student Teacher Preparation TODAY, you must complete the following forms: DCFS Mandated Report Form Summer Address and Fall Housing Location Form

Early Campus Arrival Look for Housing and Meal arrangements for early arrival on campus in communication you will receive this summer. Housing will be temporary and you will receive one meal – dinner.

Keys to Success Read & check your ONU daily! Read syllabus Notice due dates Record your student teaching days carefully on your log-sheet!!! Consider every day an interview for a teaching job! – don’t get lazy, slack off, or forget to show initiative everyday!

Background Checks Every student must have a new background check and finger printing before student teaching. ONLY FALL STUDENT TEACHERS WILL COMPLETE Background Checks – May 7 th at 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. in the SOE office. Pick up form for background check. Spring background checks will be done at the end of the fall semester.

Calendar for Fall 2014 Student Teachers First day of ONU classes August 27th. Student teaching is 60 full days – We encourage additional days if permitted by the school district and your schedule.

Fall Experience All student teachers – Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 have to participate in the three days of “Fall Experience.” First day of Student Teaching can start after completing your three days of “Fall Experience.”

School Calendar / ONU Follow the school calendar where you are Student Teaching! If fall/winter breaks are not the same, you must observe the K-12 student teaching placement break calendar.

What’s considered a “ST-DAY”? Typical Student Teaching Day – 7:30a.m.– 4:00p.m. Could be 7:30 – 12:00, + 5:00 – 9:00 for conferences Could be 7:30 – 4:00 A full day is a minimum of 6 hours on the school campus!!! Some school days will be taught totally by you, while other days will be a “Co-Teaching Model.” Each School District and Cooperating Teacher will determine the best “model’ to be used in their classroom. Week-end days do not count – those are part of being a teacher.

EDUC 456 Management & Professional Practices (classroom management & professional issues) – Dr. Oswalt  Attendance is mandatory – absences will result in a grade reduction, possible failing grade.  Times and dates on syllabus – every Thursday evening.  Required papers/forms – need to be turned in on time to receive an A in this class

edTPA All student teacher candidates will be completing an edTPA as part of the student teaching experience- Professor Lance Kilpatrick
