Teacher Introduction: Mrs. J. Munro, M.Ed. & Reading Specialist Certification, K - 12 University degrees from West Chester University, Kutztown University, Post- Graduate work at Temple University, Drexel University; Continuing Education  Professional Experience: Norristown area School District, West Chester University - Adjunct Professor, NASD, & Methacton school District (K – 12)  Lower Providence resident, Parent of two MSD graduates, Community Involvement in the Lower Providence Optimist Club, and Church Volunteer  Member of the National Council for Gifted Education, Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education, and International Literacy Association Hobbies and Interests: travel, family celebrations, swimming in the ocean, exercising, theater and the arts, eating out for breakfast - lunch – dinner

Challenge = Blend of learning activities and project enrichment & acceleration  Geography = continental investigations, geographic effects on culture and history, human and physical geography, current events  US and Canada  Latin and South America  Europe  Africa and the Middle East  Asia (Southeast and the Pacific)  Guest speakers, Discovery Education and Tween Tribune **Grading is based on points earned over points possible = %

Reading = Vocabulary Development and Becoming a Critical Reader of Genre’s  GREAT GENRE’ GAMES = Students will “mix it up” each month by reading ONE designated genre’ and books of their choice, to increase comprehension! IRP – Independent Reading Program = student’s choice of books at the 6 th + Level AR (Accelerated Reader) test score of 80%; Begins in the 2 nd Marking Period = HW Parent Permission form for MG +, UG or YA books IRP becomes a new weighted category in the 3 rd and 4 TH marking period for reading. Storytown = anthology and thematic leveled books = 1 st half of the year Literature circles = novels and trade books, 2nd half of the year Word Wisdom = analyzing and applying vocabulary development, all year Recitations = reciting and analyzing meanings of poems, speeches, historic events, all year

Reading Grades = weighted by category % Category % changes 3 rd and 4 TH MP with IRP* 1st MP - 2 nd MP 3rd – 4 th MP  COMPREHENSION = 30% COMPREHENSION =30 %  VOCABULARY= 15% VOCABULARY = 10%  FOCUS SKILLS = 25% FOCUS SKILLS = 20%  PROJECTS = 15% PROJECTS = 15%  Classwork/Homework = 15% Classwork/Homework = 10% (IRP is included in HW for 2 nd MP ) IRP = 15 % (3 rd & 4 th MP)
