How to View Multiple Blogs at One Time RSS Feeds

Want to save time? Checking multiple teacher blogs can take a lot of time There’s a way to simplify this so that all of the blogs can be viewed in one place. This is done using something called RSS Feeds and Feed Readers. Feed Readers let you “subscribe” to several streams of information (including blogs, news sites, etc.) These streams are viewable all at once instead of visiting multiple pages.

Here’s how to set up RSS Feeds on a Feed Reader First, choose a Feed Reader. Most are free. Many Feed Readers also have phone apps which makes it even easier to check new blog posts from wherever you are. One of the most popular Feed Readers is “Feedly” – this one will be used to illustrate how to set up a Feed Reader. Most of them work in similar ways. You usually need to set up an account with the Feed Reader and you will probably need an address to do this.

On a Computer: Go to a Feed Reader site like Feedly. Hover your mouse over the left hand side of the screen then click the green “Add Content” button.

You will then see this screen which will allow you to add a blog feed.

Open up another Browser Tab or Window Go to the Durham Website and find one of the teacher blogs you want to add. Click on the link for the teacher blog. We will use Mr. Panter’s blog as an example.

This is the symbol for RSS Feeds. Any time you see this symbol, that means that you can “subscribe” to that site’s feed. To add this feed to your Feed Reader, Right Click on the icon and select “copy”.

To add this feed to your Feed Reader, Right Click on the icon and select “Copy link address”.

Go back to the Feedly site. In the search box, Right Click and select “Paste”.

The blog feed will appear in the drop down-click on it to select.

A new page will appear with a list of the blog posts from that blog. Click on the green “+Feedly” button to add this to your subscriptions.

You will then be prompted to set up your Feedly account. You can use an existing Google, Twitter, or Facebook Account. If you do not have one of these accounts, you may need to try a different reader.

When you add a source, you can rename it and put it in a “collection”. For instance, if you have more than one student, you could set up a collection for each student that contains their teacher blog feeds. When finished, click the green “Update” button.

Continue adding more blogs by copying and pasting their RSS Feed link OR the website address into the search box and following the previous steps. Even if a site does not have an RSS feed symbol, it probably has an RSS Feed that will show up when you paste the address.

You can choose different layouts to suit your preferences.

You can also download the app for Feedly on your phone or tablet. Feedly also works with other apps. Once you’ve set up an RSS Feed Reader, you only have one site to visit instead of 5 to 7 different blogs.
