Digital asset management and discovery and delivery services in the library of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Géza Kocsis IGeLU Conference Budapest 4 September 2015

Contents 1.Objectives 2.Background 3.Solutions 4.Digital content & collections 5.Delivery

Objectives (1) Facilitating research and artistic work: One single interface Full text first Digitized contents (sheet music) form around the world Delivery of audiovisual materials

Objectives (2) Meeting as many legal requirements as possible, among others: to present the research and artistic work of the university staff, to present cultural heritage (digitized first), to participate in national and international projects

Objectives (3) Taking into consideration the existing conditions: better not to change the ILS, no library IT staff, impossibility of buying any new hardware.

Objectives (4) Meeting all the financial requirements: THOU SHALT NEED NO (EXTRA) MONEY

Background (1) Library software: ILS: ALEPH v20, Federated search: Metalib, Link resolver: Sfx. Several databases (free or subscribed): online journals, books, concerts, opera films etc.

Background (2) University databases: Digital Archives of the Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum and Research Centre Anthology of Hungarian Zither Music Relikvia Online Database of Church Music

Finding a solution (1) No extra costs will incur Replacing Metalib with D&D, Preferring SaaS model to save hardware & IT costs + ADAM

Finding a solution (2) Digital documents to present: Audiovisual collection: digitized content, mostly copyright-protected, Small-print collection: concert programs, diploms…, Manuscripts & first editions, PhD & DLA theses, Materials of the Liszt Academy Concert Centre.

Digital collection (1) Existing metadata in ILS Some digital content presented in other databases (e.g. Liszt Museum) Existing content at different departments of the Academy (e.g. Concert Centre) Collecting all of them in ADAM.

Digital collection (2) Liszt Collection: manuscripts and first editions Mihalovich Collection Szőllősy Collection: manuscripts, small prints, audiovisual materials – most of them copyright-protected Concert Centre Collection: concert programs, mostly in pdf format

Digital collection (3) The Szőllősy Collection

DAM policy Copyright protected materials: IP-based restricted delivery No additional DRM solutions (cost efficiency) Public domain/not copyright-protected materials: Free for private or scientific use

Delivery (1) 2014: Ex Libris’s Primo TC with Sfx chosen (price-based choice) Implementation issues: Applying the Liszt Academy’s public image – licenced fonts, slow responses Integrating existing databases Delivery of subscribed content

Delivery (2) Existing university databases: Several serious compatibility issues Existing metadata in the ALEPH catalogue Duplicating digital objets in ADAM to meet the EU Horizon 2020 requirements

Delivery (3) Subscribed content: mostly indexed in PCI Issues to solve: The "R-s": Les Répértoires Internationaux de la Musique (RILM, RISM, RIPM), delivered by EBSCO – workaround by Ex- LH staff Streaming service: medici.tv (not really a database) The New Grove Online

Delivery (4) Integrating the Concert Center’s programs: Searching in the concert programs (new tag in Primo search box) Adapting the "view" as option for buying concert tickets

Thank you!
