Some Truths About Your Walk Luke 4:1-13 Rev. Christopher J. Respass January 9, 2013

Some Truths about your Walk (Luke 4:1-13) I.The Spirit of the Lord will lead you into some spiritual battles (v.1). A. Here, Jesus is passing the test that Adam failed (Gen 3, Romans 5:12-21) B. You will go through periods of spiritual testing, but never believe you are being “tempted” by God (Heb. 1:12-13).

Some Truths about your Walk (Luke 4:1-13) 2. A Few Helpful facts about your Teacher, Savior and Lord: A. Jesus was tempted (v.2), but was without sin (Heb. 4:15). B. Jesus Fasted (v.2) C. Jesus was a real, flesh and blood, man (v.2)—but so much more than that!! (Heb. 1:1-4)

Some Truths about your Walk (Luke 4:1-13) 3.Satan’s temptations are of the same general variety—flesh, eyes, pride of life (v.3, 6, 9-11) A. Satan used this tactic on Adam & Eve (Gen. 3:1- 7) B. Satan used this tactic on Jesus. C. He uses the same tactics on you (1 John 2:16) For all that is in the world- the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions- is not from the Father but is from the world.

Some Truths about your Walk (Luke 4:1-13) 4.Concerning fasting: A. Physical food is only partial sustenance (v.4) (“not just bread alone”). B. The word of God should be the foundation of your life and witness (v.4, 8)(“it is written”). C. The word of God is meant to be applied by you (v. 4, 8, 12)(“Jesus answered”).

Some Truths about your Walk (Luke 4:1-13) 5.Satan tempted Jesus multiple times, so don’t expect a one-time assault (v.13 )(“until and opportune time ”). A. Jesus apparently endured multiple temptations by Satan. B. As the disciple of Jesus, you should have no reasonable expectation of a one-time temptation from the enemy.
