Campaign Rules and Time Line

Petitions In order to be eligible to run for Arrowhead student council you need to have a petition signed by 24 Arrowhead Elementary 4-6th grade students. The FIRST signature on the petition is your parents or guardian. Petitions are due to one of the Student Council Supervisors by the end of the day THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th! Anyone who wants to run for Student Council office will need to come pick up their petition TODAY AFTER SCHOOL in Ms. G’s room (45).

Campaign Posters Posters should be made at home over Labor Day weekend. Posters are due to be hung in the cafeteria next Tuesday, September 8th. Bring your finished poster to the cafeteria between 8:30 – 8:45, before school. They will be displayed in the cafeteria for the week. Your poster is the only form of campaigning besides your speech. There will be no gifts, buttons, handouts, or any extras given to voters.

Speeches Speeches are due to Ms. Gewargis’s or Mrs. Miles’s classroom on Tuesday, September 8th (same day that posters are due!) You should do this over Labor Day weekend! All speeches must be proofread by Ms. G. or Mrs. Miles before they may be read on Friday! Approved speeches must be picked up in Mrs. Miles’s classroom by lunch on Thursday September 10th. ***If your speech has not been approved by Ms. G or Mrs. Miles, you will NOT be allowed to read it on Election Day!***

Speech Guidelines 1.) A three minute time limit will be given for all speeches 2.) Do not make any unrealistic promises. For example, indoor pools, free food, no homework if you’re elected. Do not even joke about it! 3.) Talk about your strengths: What makes you a great Student Council candidate?

Election Day! The delivery of speeches for qualified candidates will be held in the PTV Room (Room 12) starting at 11:00. The candidates will read their speeches on PTV. Voting will take place immediately following the speeches. The results will be announced on Monday morning announcements.
