How to Write a Workshop Proposal

The 2015 NAMI National Convention July 6-9, San Francisco Workshop Guidelines It is important to include the perspective of a person living with a mental illness and/or a family member in the presentation. Particularly important are workshops that provide tools for attendees to use when they get back home. Please do not attempt to submit multiple proposals. Only one proposal per submitter will be considered by the committee. (If more than one individual from an organization is interested in submitting workshops, then each individual must submit their own proposal.) Workshop presenters are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses.

You may have up to a maximum of 3 presenters plus one moderator. A variety of viewpoints is always a plus The person submitting the workshop proposal is considered the primary presenter of the session and will receive all information regarding the session (acceptance, scheduling, a/v, etc.) If you are going to have multiple presenters make sure that you know what equipment you will need. I always bring my own equipment to presentations because I know the components work together. In the event you use facility equipment, make sure you get to the workshop early enough to make sure it works Workshops Proposals are due December 1, Applicants will be notified of the decision (acceptance or denial) on their workshop by February 15, This is a hard date, no exceptions

The application will ask a number of questions; see screenshots below. As you can see from the list of categories below there are a lot of different possible subject matters Presentations by sole presenters are not necessarily the best way to go – the committee is interested in the perspective of different speakers to ensure a comprehensive view of the issue.

Don’t list too many, but it is not unusual if some are addressed together

Opiate abuse is a serious issue across the US. This workshop will provide and understanding of the extent of the problem an how NAMI members can have an impact on the problem through particpating in treatment for themselves or assisting a family member..

Provide information demonstrating the prevalence of co-occurring Opiate addiction (US) Educate attendees on the impact of opiate addiction among NAMI members Provide education on treatment options and methods of intervention

Opiate addiction effects millions of people in our country every year. Thousands of lives are lost needlessly because communities do not understand how to recognize the problem and how to intervene. This workshop will help attendees recognize symptoms and provide them with a list of treatment options and provide information on how to intervene in the opiate addiction of a themselves or a loved one. The attendees will also be presented with resources recognized nationwide.

John Doe is recognized as being a person in recovery from opiate addiction for 30 years and a professor at AA/NA university. Jane Doe, John’s wife, has been anactive participant in John’s recovery for 30 years. Jane has also created an opiate addiction website that provides information to family members.
