What is attractiveness in English Society By Sarah Aylward and Sam Balyen

Research Survey Results We did research into the type of person the opposite sex find attractive. We compiled this research to examine how celebrities and sex symbols influence what we find attractive. We made two surveys one for men and the other for women to answer with a selection of celebrities chosen by myself and Sam. We chose these by researching via the internet using various websites. One being FHM top 100 sex symbols. We also added a few different celebrities to vary the type of selection. For example, Dita Von Teese as she is seen as curvier then other sex symbols.

Research Survey Results Male Survey George Clooney 3 Daniel Craig 2 Russell Brand 6 Jake Gyllenhaal 10 Jack Black 5 Female Survey Keeley Hazel 7 Dita Von Teese 2 Cheryl Cole 7 Keira Knightley 5 Halle Berry 6

The winners

Research What do men find attractive? - Men look at women from two points of view: 1. The first being a woman to have a temporary love making relationship with, men tend to look at the physical structure especially nice breast and back. 2. The second being a woman to have as a life partner, men look for a delicate nature, a woman's smile, sense of humour, strong personality and confidence.

Points of view - My opinion on the way a male mind works is based on a lot of fantasy. Take for example, glamour models such as Jordan, Keely and Dannielle Lloyd, when you see them in magazines they are always skimpily dressed and their poses seem perocative and seductive. They give out the impression that they are readily Available. -Many appear fake as in the photos are airbrushed, they have fake boobs, fake tan and fake nails. Does this give the image of a perfect woman? Have glamour models raised the bar and men now expect all women to look like this? -From the results of the survey glamour model Keeley was a popular choice for attractiveness.

Research what women find attractive - “We live in a very complicated world compared to our ancestors of 1.5 million years ago. Some things change but what women find attractive in men, has not changed much. On a primal level, women are attracted to men for their superior survival and replication genes. Women want to insure offspring will have the best chance at survival. For it is through replication and survival that society can move forward. “ - “Senses of humour – Ladies want to be around guys who are fun and adventurous. Being funny will leave a big impression on her. It also demonstrates you are comfortable with who you are and you are not afraid of a little self effacing humour. “ -From the results of the survey a surprise contender for some was Russell Brand who came second, could this be due to his sense of humour rather than his looks?

Research How our parents influence attractiveness -By age 8 we have already begun our pattern for our ideal mate in our brains, this is mostly influenced by our parents -Our mothers write a significant portion of our love map (a group of messages encoded in our brains that describe our likes and dislikes) When you are little our mother is the centre of our attention and we are of hers so her characteristics leave An indelible impression and we are forever after attracted to people with her facial Features, body type, personality and even sense of humour -Whilst our mothers determine a large part of what qualities attract us in a mate It’s the father who influences how we relate to the opposite sex. Fathers have an Enormous effect on their children's personalities and chances of marital happiness.

Points of view A male point of view -As a Male, I’m am automatically attracted by the usual points. Bust, Hips, Smile, etc. But I feel like these girl who distort themselves are ridiculous and not someone I would want to be friends with, let alone be in a relationship with. -In more recent times, Girls in magazines are ‘touched up’ by Photoshop, even though I can see the appeal of using Photoshop to correct these photo’s, the Magazines are portraying the ‘perfect girl’ to young teenagers who want to become that. -from my own mind, I’d rather have a girl who was individual, could talk to me with intelligence and not just flash her chest at me and expect me to respond (not saying that I won’t).
