United States Marine Corps A Brief History Compiled by Michael Pay

The United States Marine Corps was founded in 1775 in Tun Tavern, Pennsylvania. The Legacy Founded

Signed into life… The Continental Congress approved and signed the resolution calling for two battalions of Marines to fight for United State’s independence.

Samuel Nicholas Samuel Nicholas was then appointed the first Commandant of the Marine Corps.

The First Mission In 1776, the Marines conducted their first amphibious raid against Fort Nassau in the Bahamas. Successfully capturing large quantities of gunpowder the British were using for battle against the 13 Colonies.

The battles continue… Since its founding, the Marines have taken part in numerous significant battles, ensuring independence for the United States.

The battles continue… From the Halls of Montezuma… To the Shores of Tripoli…

The United States Marines has always been one of America’s most elite amphibious fighting force. Up until today!

So when you’re with your friends and families enjoying that luscious barbeque this 4 th of July… Remember the Marines!
