EXCHANGE PROGRAMME INFORMATION SESSION IB1

Do I have to study abroad? In order to graduate ALL International Business students must spend a minimum of a semester abroad. Eligibility You must pass ALL your 2 nd Year classes at the first attempt, with no compensated passes, and achieve a weighted average of 55% for 2 nd year in order to proceed to your study abroad.

How does the student exchange programme work? Spend a minimum of one semester at a partner university overseas Follow an agreed curriculum at the host institution MDP 3 will be done by distance learning for the semester abroad Return to Strathclyde for one semester Exchange period is a pass/fail and, assuming you pass, you will receive credit for the period abroad

What are the benefits of studying abroad? Where can I study? List of partner institutions is on the exchanges website European – Denmark, The Netherlands, Ireland Non-European – Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong

When do I apply? You will apply during semester 1 of 2 nd year. You will be e- mailed about meetings which you should attend. Once you have completed the Strathclyde application you will be nominated to a university abroad and will then have to complete that university’s application procedure. You will be asked to put 4 areas of the world in order of preference – North America, Australasia, Europe and Asia. The exchange place allocated to you will link to your curriculum to achieve best added value for your exchange period

Do I pay Tuition Fees? Tuition fees are payable to Strathclyde in the normal way ( if applicable). No tuition fees paid to partner university. Students who pay fees at the overseas rate will continue to do so.

Cost Realistically it will cost you more than if you stayed at Strathclyde. Additional costs include flights, insurance, visa, accommodation etc An estimated cost of £3500 for one semester on exchange

Funding Self-funding Student Loan Personal Savings Other sources of funding Apply for Erasmus grant if go to Europe Apply to Neil Hood Memorial Fund if go to non- European country Research Trust Funds, Scholarships etc

Neil Hood Memorial Fund If you are applying for an exchange outside Europe you may wish to apply to the Neil Hood Memorial Fund Usually grants available annually for Strathclyde business students Application and further info online - g/neilhoodfundscholarship/ g/neilhoodfundscholarship/

Where can I get further info? Undergraduate Office Level 3 Sir William Duncan Building Advising times etc on the website Resource Centre -Access folders and information on partner universities and student reports -Computers in Resource Centre -Access Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm

Remember The exchange period is your responsibility – we can help but you have to be prepared to work at researching the partners and matching with an institution which offers your curriculum The exchange period is not a holiday and you will have to work hard You need to be adaptable, resourceful and willing to embrace change and different cultures. Won’t be the same as at Strathclyde!
