TWINS AND MULTIPLES

Monozygotic - Identical Dizygotic - Fraternal TYPES OF TWINS

Factors that affect chances of having twins-  Fertility treatments/drugs  Heredity  Age  Race  Nutrition  Number of pregnancies  History of twins

Average Length of Pregnancy o Singleton - last 39 weeks o Twins - 36 weeks o Triplets - 32 weeks o Quadruplets - 30 weeks o Quintuplets - 29 weeks

PARENTING MULTIPLES  Different names  Refer by name not “twins”  Avoid dressing alike  Keep clothes in different drawers  Give own toys  Separate gifts/cakes on birthday  Encourage to pursue different interests  Avoid comparisons

Separating Twins  Is one child too dependent?  Do they play only with their sibling?  Are they distracting to each other?  Different skill levels.  Does one child want to separate?
